What is the difference between ESL/ELL?

ESL and ELL are essentially the same thing. However, ESL stands for English as a Second Language and ELL stands for English Language Learners. For the purpose of this website, all students who are learning English as a second language will be referred to ELL.

How is educating ESL/ELL different from regular instruction?

ESL/ELL instruction is different than regular instruction because it focuses more on building background knowledge and helping ELL students to understand the academic language that makes up most instruction.
