​Reading comprehension and building schema are vital learning tools in langauge acquisition, but let's not forget about the other areas in learning. This section will offer other classroom strategies related to specific topics, like science or math. These strategies can also be applied to all content areas!

BUILDING SCHEMA

​

​Schema, or background knowledge, is an important tool in mastering the English language. If students can relate the English language to their native langauge, then they have be better chance at being successful in school.  This section provides strategies for helping to build the background knowledge of the ELL student. 

 

ACADEMIC VOCABULARY/LANGUAGE

​

​Academic Vocabulary is an important part of an ELL student's education.  If they do not understand the terms being used, than they will never understand why they are learning/doing the task at hand.  This section provides strategies for introducing and implimenting academic vocabulary.
