EDU 557- International and Cross-Cultural Education

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Global as well as area studies into the connections between cultures and educational systems throughout the world.  Practice in strategies to enhance cross-cultural understanding through studies in international education.  Meets the Tier II Cultural Perspectives requirement of the Liberal Arts program.

Part of this class looked at different cultural areas and what their education systems were like.  For the area study assignment (Appendix K), I chose South Africa because one of my old coworkers had lived in South Africa for many years and she would always talk about how much the school systems – and life in general—were different from the United States.  It always had me intrigued and this class gave me the opportunity (and excuse) to explore the topic further!

As part of the area study (Appendix K) we had to present our findings in a PowerPoint presentation (Appendix L).  This presentation shows how South Africa’s culture influences their education.
